What is TDS under Section 194-IA?

When you buy a property worth Rs 50 Lakhs or more, the Income Tax Act requires you - the buyer - to deduct 1% TDS from the payment and deposit it with the government using Form 141(26QB).

Who must file?Any buyer purchasing immovable property (except agriculture land) for value >= Rs 50L.
Rate of TDS?1% of the total property transaction value.
Form required?Form 141(26QB) on Income Tax Portal.
Deadline?30 days from end of month of deduction.
Penalty for non-filing?Interest + late fee Rs 200/day and maximum penalty to the extent of the TDS deducted.
